It was alright but i dont really have anything in common with my dad other than our stubby legs and receeding hairlines. He stayed on my lounge floor and generally absorbed himself into my life for two days.

We did a few things, saw Hot Fuzz, Wild Hogs and spent time shopping around Perth, the movies were good - see below - and i broke my one coffe a day thing i've been doing for a few weeks.

Interestingly enough I took my father through a Roleplaying Games shop and he didnt whine once. which impressed me. I picked up a copy of GURPS - Ultra-Tech and i am going to use it to round out my GURPS: Dragonstar campaign which i will start as soon as Deadlands is over.

My 'Healthy lifestyle' kick essentually went to Bunko over the weekend.

The final thing my Dad, Noelene and I went to was a dance at a bar in northbridge on sunday night. I was jypped - it was ALL country music which i sat mopingly at a table with noelene while my dad trolled the lonley women in the crowd. At the end of the night he left back for bunbury and I felt full coz i ate a whole box of potato wedges from that club.

WOW Hiatus
I'm having a bit of a low bit from Warcraft and have neglected my duties as guildmaster a bit. I'm back in a little more of late but i've been playing with several characters and not really advancing in any. a bit more effort on this part her I think.

Wild Hogs and Hot Fuzz
While i will write some reveiws for both for the FTI newsletter suffice it to say i'm pretty chuffed with both fillums. A few episodes in and I'm hooked again, its a piss off I'm so over this binge TV.
Having to wait a year between seasons and watching them all in the span of a week or so. I also just watched up to the last episode of Heroes and have to wait 6 week for the final 5 episodes of the season. I'm lovig Both

is it the way of television shows?, I don't know if i can do that. its even more difficult if i watch any of my british TV shows on DVD, I can watch a full season in one sitting of those, having just watched Red Dwarf and the Good Life, which average about 8 episodes a season.

The other way to look at it is perhaps how we read books. Quite often I have 2 or three books on the go at a time depending on what i'm in the mood for? Others cant read more than one book at a time having to stop and read the whole book before going onto the next?.

It Occured to me this is how I'm watching my TV. We sit for hours immersed in one TV reality now and absorb the whole lot before going onto the next block. Its TV binging and is it good for us.

As an example of how bad this is for me. I'm getting up early and instead of going out to exercise i'll sit the Exercise bike in front of the DVD and ride through a whole episode of whatever it is i'm watching. My World of Wacraft characters are being negected for mindless exercise in front of a TV. Its a strange thing for me but I cant stop it.

Is TV the new book? In that we will sit down and read chapters with our kids before bed, giving them a new chapter each night and then going ont the next story. That being said, are feature films the new short-story peices? Im not worried that these things will die as many in the industry are, I'm worried that I have to adapt to a new way of doing things when i had grown up doing in in a completely different way. But that is the way of nature isn't it, adapt or Perish.

The Slow Spiral + Budget Wedding Planning

I've been feeling a little out there recently, stressed from our courses and work and tired of just the general monotony of it all.

My teeth are driving me nuts having budgeted all my money away i need tonne of fillings and I'm constantly suffering one big Tooth-based-head-ache if I'm grouchy that is why. I'm not into taking tonnes of drugs so i save my two daily panadol for bedtime.

I have made some life-altering decisions of late which may or may not affect how I go about my day to day, needless to say I've put my 3 year plan into effect and the ball is now rolling.

On the marital Side - the Wedding is creeping closer, as such it is an informal affair, to be conducted in the Gosnells council gardens with a quick jaunt across the road after for a meal at Ogdens.

We dont want presents but everyone is expectd to buy there own meals. Our costs of hiring a celebrant and buying rings, Noelene and I are getting an identical pair of rings made in white gold by a friend of ours and any photograps are to be taken by people who come. We are not having formal photography. The Location is free so it is a huge expreiment on how to run a cut priced wedding. This year the Post summer viewing is looking to be a little interesting. I dont normally download shows so the majority of episodes will be seen on TV or DVD.

Heroes
The must watch SCI-Fi tv series this year looks to be quite exciting - we'll see how long it holds my attention.

Battlestar Galactica
Has apparently jumped the shark in season 3. I'm not listening as i'm still halfway through Season 2 and quite enjoying it.

House
I'm a big fan of House and was impressed by the cast of characters from the beginning - Unlike a lot of 'Science/Medicine' based dramas it is still about people. Which is the draw-card for me.
Even CSI Miami seems dry to me this year.

The Biggest Loser
How could you not love a bunch of fatties crying about how unloved they are. Television Glory!

NCIS
Noelene and i are going to be fighing over the remote this year - when Dancing with the Stars (and Jamie Durie) returns to its tuesday timeslot. I for one like NCIS which is not lacking with the abscence of Kate, I liked the Mossad Spy character Ziva played by Cote de Pablo who replaced Kate last season and feel that the show has not lost any of its perky upbeat humour. For a Jag Spin-off and a CSI(ish) clone NCIS has a solid cast that i like for similer reasons that I like House

Deadwood
A series of Telemovies will be wrapping Deadwood up after it was cancelled after its 3rd Season
A Pity, i await these movies with excitement though.

Stargate: Atlantis
The Stargate spinoff actually got me excited about 'Stargate' again in its first Season and i'll be looking forward to the second season which i'll catch on DVD

The Other Little Miss Potter

I loved the Film 'Miss Potter' which opened this week in Oz.

The latest in a line of Bio-Pics that have bled into the cinema of late and staring Rene no less.

The Film manages to take a look at Beatrix Potters life in from when she first started writing her childrens books (with a couple of flashbacks to her childhood) until her move to Cumbria and freedom from the bustle of london.

The Story manages to weave the eccentricity of Potter herself (talking to nicely animated versions of her own characters) through a whirlwind, if cinematic romance with her Bookmaker (Ewan McGregor) and into a magical story that talks about love, class and money in early Georgian London.

Beatrix is played well by Rene, once again doning an english accent (A lot better than the Tripe of American accented french in Marie Antoinette, but still a wierd choise considering all the talented British actresses) who manage to capture a woman thinking outside her alotted Box.

The secondary cast is great and complements the Mains well giving a solid, well made film.

4/5 I loved it. the Right Mix of everything.

Lui gets Warhol

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; Not only that - the dragon Sapphira was voiced by Rachel Weis and had all the emotive talents of a dead hamster -

( Seriously Rachel - take up a career as a photographers model or something coz thats all you have going for you.)

the Calibre of Actors didnt help either, Robert Carlysle, John Malkovich, Jeremy Irons - all definately dropped a peg for doing this film.

That being said - the visuals are breathtaking, while the dragon design is not what i'd do, it was a good model and the animation was mostly seamless with the live action.

Casino Royal on the other hand is the best Bond film ever (I know i said that already but its worth saying twice) Daniel Craig is the most believable James Bond and added a level of credibility to th character not seen since before that Brosnan Putz.

Its takes us back to the beginning of Bond - ((Without doing the cheezy "MI6 Babies" animated series With 'M' as a 3 year old and Bond solving mysteries with a score of Nappy based gadgets)) - And from what I hear is a good adaption of a 50 year old novel.

I dont want to spoil it but it makes for a grittier Darker movie - without the namby pambyness of the last few films -

YAY for Bond!

powered by performancing firefox

Back in the world of the Living

well I'm around yes - Its my new favourite show.

I'm particularly sucked in by the Machinations of Al Swearingen (played by Ian McShane) and how he uses his lackeys for both their merits and faults.

the Surley Doc Cochrane is another favourite. (Yes another angsty doctor)

Historicaly it is a little off - However there are a lot of facts and situations that are direct from the history books. for instance I've read a bit of stuff about the Potty mouth and drunkenness of Calamity Jane but she is probably the most accurate of the characters.

I'm so into the show i'm readying a new Campaign for the 'Deadlands' RPG following the flow of the show. And he invited me down to his "Well we'll start at Tim's [My Dad is Tim too - and we call him Tim] and then go into Bunbury."

Physically I'm a lot smaller than my brothers (Even - well I would say less muscular )- and as a Group of testosterone filled brothers teend to be a bit much I try to avoid these things because they do treat me like a punching bag. I tend to Baffle them with science and the tend to end any one of my inane questions/statements with a sarcastic "There's Logic in it."

we tend to get along resonably well though.

I arrived in bunbury to my dad sitting at the kitchen table Taking the morgan Gallop poll.
"There's Dramas" he said..

I Groaned internally

Apparently One of my other brothers had spent the night before with one of Mark's Friend's Girlfriends. Mark had told his Mate about the infedelity.

There was a reason my dad did this. He himself is a troublemaker and knows that 'm a stickler for 'keeping it in your pants' when outside and away from your girl.

I figured at this point - ok there's soing going on here - and tried not to bite - My dad knowing full well that I couldnt help but lecture my brother.

Actually - I lectured them all but thats not the point - usually they arc up at me about it but it was fine - I said my peace and although mark was a little upset about the whole situation it was business as usual.

Before I went to the party I had been given a bottle of Mezcal - which is like a kind of tequila - but has a Worm in the bottom. Its Freaky and as it was his 21st birthday i promised mark the worm (apparently its like licking a toad in effect but i'm dubious)

The night started well with Mark and I going one for one Shots of the Mexcal (in the Traditional Tequila Slammer lick-sip-suck method) and before long we both had finished the bottle - and then crossed onto a bottle of Benedictine (Which i had not drunk before and it tasted a lot like cough syrup)

I'm not a big drinker by any account - One here and there and never more than 3. But i drank over a liter of unmixed spirits and liqures.

Good thing I'm a Giggly Drunk.

Some time after two am Jordan and I took a ride into Bunbury. He was meeting that girl again (dont ask) and i hadnt ben to a club in Bunbury for years.

Bunbury is still a sad little cesspool. Full of redneck idiots fighting in the street and skanky bitches who abuse you in the street because she cant afford for the 2 year old she has left alone at home while she came clubbing.

The "Exit" nightclub is the site of the "Jigsaw" from my own party years and as i walk up to the bouncer I had this sick feeling - like I didnt want to be there - I'm assuming it was the Tequila - who knows...

Anyway I got to the door and the bouncer stopped me and said "Your Id please"
Now I dont look 17 - I'm well past 25 and about to hit my 31st year..
"Pardon?" I said - indignity carried everywhere
"I'll need to see your Id?"
"You've got to be fucking kidding?"
"No, your card -"
So I reached for my wallet...
"you know when I hand this to you and you realise that I'm 30, almost 31, you are going to feel like a Cock-head"
"No I wont.."
So he took my licence and looked back and forth on it to my face and then handedd it back and said "Ok" and turned back to the line..

Ass!

then my brother was stopped - he was wearing shorts

AAAAAARRRRGGGGHHH!

The night ended with me shivering in a crappy old blanket on my dads lounge

It was a fun night despite that - but i do think the alcohol may have dulled my senses...

The House that Tim's Bank Broke

Two days ago I was looking to buy a block + house.

Noelene phoned me frantically saying that the half acre block behind ours was for sale and the owner was taking offers - but i'd have to make a decision that day.

So i figured - what could i loose? and went too see the bank about finance.

My Dignity - would be the answer to that. Its shameful a guy in his thirties is unable to get a home loan even if it is split with his equally well off cousin.

Now I know I'm going to cop it for the following statement but here goes..

How do people in normal situations loose out to deadbeat single mothers below the poverty line. What makes me worse off than that bunch of aboriginals who live down the street and deficate in the living room of the house that they have thrown each other through the walls of. When did i become less socially respectable than teenage punks whos only role in life was to skate and vandalise - Now I know of cases where all of these people got money from the bank to buy a home. What - other than not being a paint sniffing, childbeating, dolecheating, no-hoper - am I doing wrong?

It seems the only way to get noticed these days is to flaunt your titties on Big Brother or to be arrested for Cannabis traficking in Indonesia (Face it - she did it Folks).

Those of us who do the right thing are having doors closed to us...

Now call me racist, sexist, ageist, a misogynist or whatever - I dont care (Personally they are all true under the Misanthrope banner I hate people as a whole but like the occasional person) but I think that the White Australian Male is being disadvantaged because we put in all the work to get where we are. I cant go out and get myself pregnant to live on benifits for the next 18 years. I cant jump on the short line specifically set aside for those with a darker Tan than me.

I dont Drink, Smoke or use drugs yet somehow i'm not deserving of my lifestyle.

Funny that.

FAQ - Tims Holidays
Tim, Welcome Back, How were your Holidays?
Good -Very relaxing

Did you go anywhere?
No

Did you get up to Much?
Well the first week was intense as we were cutting up the framework of the old house as firewood. I estimate (from previous firewood sorties) that we cut up 4 years worth of firewood.

On the second week I watched a few movies and Played World of Warcraft.

What Movies did you watch?
Oh tonnes - The DaVinci Code and X-Men 3 were good and i replaced a pile of my old Audrey Hepburn films with DVD versions - (Roman Holiday, Breakfast at Tiffanies, Funny Face and Paris When it Sizzles) and also picked up Every Which Way but Loose and Any which Way you can. I also caught up with my recordings of I Dream of Jeanie.

You Played a Lot of Warcraft? (more on that at a Later time i think). One interesting thind was that in the sky over the parade hung a cresenct moon cupping the morning star - a Celestial turkish flag - Interesting since it was this year that Turkey was invited to march with the anzac Vets.

Mike and i walked away from the service questioning the sky and cursing the screaming children and people who cant take a minuites silence.

Then we drove to Daryls place.

Daryl Hackett is probably the one friend I have that thinks like me - a complete Misanthrope. His house is a luxury estate in the Sactuary golfcourse estate - quite regal in bunbury terms. He and his wife Tracy set aside a whole room for wargaming and that is why we had come.

the morning at daryls started at 6am, after the dawn service, with a bottle of good scotch and strong coffee - Tracy layed out a fantastic breakfast.

the days campaign was layed out in a short sentence - Australian troops in Vietnam 1972. Daryls jungle setup is quite good and when i get the photos i'll put them up here. Mike, Stewie, Vaughn and Tracy all set up against Daryls Viet-Cong. Our mission - Patrol the area layed out for VC bunkers - search and destroy.

The first 20 mins of the day started with basic jungle maneuvers - coordinated by Stewie - who had each of our squads waching out for the VC at various contact points. Then without warning my Patrol was fired upon and i went to ground - not before a Grenade hit one of my men - only a fleshwound from the range of the explosion though.

the gunfire set of the VC contingent of the area and soon all our groops were dodging mortar fire as we moved in
as my Troops cleared the side of the board tracy was bogged down in the middle by hit and run tactics. Mike and Stew moved in and helped her out as I looked after wounded and POWs.

Vaughn discovered the enemy bunker and made some lucky shots to clear it out - (Really lucky - something like winning the lottery in probability maths) Using the lull in fighting we set up a defensive perimiter with claymore mines and dug in - waiting on retaliation.

Then we Broke for lunch

Back into the afternoon we were charged by a large group of VC. Charlie didnt let up for the entire afternoon and jointly we only suffered 3 casualties (including just wounded)

All in all a good day - thanks to some lucky shots..

Is My Blog Editor Not Working

Hmmph

Token Update

Anzac Day is a special holiday for me. I find its the holiday I celebrate most gleefully each year -

WHY? You ask (adding Freak under your breath)

Because I'm quite good friends with a bunch of people who take the whole anzac day thing seriously and Anzac day for me becomes the day we all get together.

(Intrigued, you are thinking, it still sounds strange)

Well on the Day of Anzac day we all make our way to the Anzac service and back - Usually to Daryl Hacketts games room where a giant board has been set up in some cool way. Hundreds of tin soldiers lining boxes and dice ready to roll.

Yep Anzac day is games day. Usually Napoleonic or a Somewhat Similar period game.

And as yet after 10 years i'm Undefeated*. Not because I'm a master tactician - but usually because I'm damn lucky and people get cocky and take risks against me. On the otherhand i'm natoreously good at jagging that best peice of terrain or getting reinforcemnts there on time. Other times im completely dependant on the assumption that I have the Tctical strategy ability of a gnat.

*I was Defeated in a team game once but our side won despite my cavalry being decimated.

This games day Luck has created a vast drive to knock me off my pedestal. At least 6 guys will be guning for my troops tomorrow.

So think of me tomorrow - out there on the battlefield.

And Pray for Me

Alive and Well

As we march closer and closer to Michelle (My stepdaughter) and Jasons wedding I harken back to simpler times when I wasnt running round committing to things 2 1/2 years in advance.

However the Depressive lull of the last couple of months seems to be subsiding.. I'm no longer convinced that 2006 is going to be the worst year ever - (that was 1996 - hey thats strange 10 years exactly... mhhm but 1996 is proof that I'm completely capable of turning crap into gold)

As people get closer to the matrimony i have ample time to exercise my brain-mouth edit function. and I think long and hard about it all.

Will people take me differently if I do?

Now there is that expectation that i will come up with the rudest, most abusive or non politically correct reply to any statement - this is reflexive i have honed it well after many years of copping other people jibs for all sorts of little things. If I stop that will i still be thought of the same.

My friends - my good friends - all know and take what i say with a pinch of salt and hopefully they see the little truthes and insights that I put forward while talking about whatever the topic is.

Being introspective obviously marks a Growth period for Tim...

How will I utilise it..

Wait and see.
